IT Assessments

Comport IT Assessments help our customers maximize value from their technology by examining their infrastructure and identifying any current issues for consideration before making any choices for upgrades or moves. We work with our clients during these IT Assessments to understand their environment and make informed decisions to help solve their pressing business and technology needs. We feel the following assessments map to our expertise and provide clients with a way to get off on the right foot with their technology projects:

  • BYOD and IoT Readiness Assessment
  • Citrix and End-User Computing Assessment
  • Cloud Computing Assessment
  • Disaster Recovery Readiness Assessment
  • Rapid Network Assessment
  • Mobile and IoT are changing how organizations think about Network Access Control. An Aruba ClearPass Remote Readiness Assessment is offered to verify security policies and create a plan to protect the network from the influx of BYOD and IoT devices infiltrating organizations. Comport Certified Consultants (CCC’s) will work remotely and in collaboration with client stakeholders.

The ClearPass Readiness Assessment is a process to identify BYOD and IoT issued devices that can connect safely to your network in compliance with security mandates. Flexible policies and unique certificates enable full and limited access based on roles, device type and security posture. The data will be gathered and analyzed, along with white-board sessions and consulting review sessions. The overall assessment will cover the following layered approach:

    • Control Layer – Review of active directory & group policies as well as Aruba licensing, onBoard, onGuard and guest
    • Resource Layer – Investigate user profiles, user policies and enforcement and protection policy
    • Data Gathering – We will utilize the Aruba Clearpass Universal Profiler to identify what is connected to your wired and wireless networks. In addition, our engineers will take time with you and collect data and current metrics of your environment through design discussions, including but not limited to system authentication, Geo Location/s, IP and VLAN network topology as well as network device equipment including mobile devices, bandwidth and security requirements
    • Mobility Requirements (Workers) – Identify BYOD/IoT devices for Employees, Guests, Contractors
    • Access Layer –Discovery of controllers, access points and mobile devices
    • Visibility Requirements – Uncover what is currently on the network while examining consistent and manageable security policies for wired and wireless

We will provide a resource for a complete 2 day analysis of your environment. At the conclusion we will provide a written document with key findings and recommendations. We will review these findings with you and provide recommendations for remediation.

  • This assessment provides a look into your XenApp/ XenDesktop infrastructure. We will examine one XenApp/XenDesktop site located in up to two redundant datacenters. Comport Certified Consultants (CCC’s) will work remotely and in collaboration with client stakeholders.

The growth of applications is evident. This assessment provides clarity for improvements in the key areas of management and security.

Various data will be gathered during the assessment, including but not limited to server event logs, application logs and XenApp specific logs. The data will be gathered and analyzed, along with white-board sessions and consulting review sessions. The overall assessment will cover the following layered approach:

    • Hardware Layer – We will evaluate your hardware layer, including hypervisors based on leading practices, current resource load and future business requirements.
    • Control Layer – Our engineers will examine active directory & group policies, database, Citrix licensing, XenApp/XenDesktop controller(s) and Citrix provisioning services servers
    • Resource Layer – User Profiles, User Policies, Printing
    • Resource Allocation (Workers) – CPU, RAM, Storage space, IOPS
    • Access Layer – StoreFront Servers, NetScalers
    • User/Desktop Layer – Citrix Receiver (compatibility)

We will provide a resource for a complete 2 day analysis of your environment. Our engineers will gather data and current metrics from your environment using scripts and where required, by login on individual servers. At the conclusion we will provide a written document with key findings and recommendations. We will review these findings with you and provide recommendations for remediation.

  • Cloud Computing presents significant opportunities for greater efficiency, higher productivity and lower IT cost, but there are so many cloud offerings out there that the choices can be daunting. Comport’s Cloud Assessment Program will help you determine which type of cloud is the best fit for your various workloads and applications. Our Certified Consultants (CCC’s) will take the time with your team to understand your business issues and recommend the right technology mix.

Comport’s team will work with you to map out a cloud migration plan to tackle your key strategic issues. We will ensure that your organization gets the most value out of the program by using a three-step process:

    • Pre-Planning: We will complete preliminary surveys, research, online assessments and document collection to clearly understand your technology environment. We will then review this information and come prepared for discussions.
    • Onsite Reviews: Once we get on-site, we will complete interviews with key personnel to understand individual goals and requirements for any business units involved. We will then complete an infrastructure assessment and application reviews.
    • Analysis: We will provide an analysis of your core infrastructure and discuss cloud best practices and finding before making a recommendation for your organization.

We will provide a resource for a 5 day analysis of your environment. At the conclusion we will provide a written document with key findings and recommendations. We will review these findings with you and provide recommendations for remediation.

  • Security breaches and data loss plague nearly every organization. So, how do you plan for a Disaster Recovery strategy that adequately safeguards your critical data? Comport’s Disaster Recovery Assessment will look into the risk and data loss potential of your organization. We will compare local recovery versus remote recovery options. Comport Certified Consultants (CCC’s) will work with your team to discover, plan and recommend a comprehensive disaster recovery plan for your organization.

The overall assessment will cover the following layered approach:

    • Initial identification of critical applications (you may include up to 15 individual applications to examine)
    • Calculation of the business risk of down-time for each application should it become unavailable. We will include the impact in financial terms
    • Documentation that will include the current back-up and protection procedures for each critical application as well as your current downtime preparations such as training, testing and readiness
    • Creation of a gap analysis between current state and Recovery Time/Recovery Point objectives, creating an identifiable exposure window
    • Delivery of a formal recovery plan that includes shifting from downtime procedures back to information systems with the needed re-synchronization

We will provide a resource for up to 6 days of analysis within your backup environment. Once the assessment has been completed, our engineers will compile a report assessing the readiness of your infrastructure and making recommendations for future improvements. The ‘IT DR Performance Assessment’ and ‘Backup Quality Assessment’ are performed at no charge.

  • With the increased volume of data and new devices impacting today’s networks, even a fairly recent network upgrade may need changes to keep up with amplified demand. With this assessment Comport examines your wide area network with a specific focus on MPLS, Internet and other ancillary WAN based connections. Our consultants work both remotely and on-site as needed, and collaborate with client stakeholders to ensure we provide you with the information you need. Our team includes a former VP of IT who has deep, specialized knowledge in this area.

Our assessment reviews both the network topology and the associated costs for those services. With this approach, we can identify opportunity for improvement, favorable cost savings or confirm that the environment is in an optimal state of operation. We want our clients to make informed decisions based on their needs. The overall assessment covers the following:

    • A complete network review of WAN drawings, locations, types and speeds. (Actual project scope will be determined by an agreement between Comport and the customer.)
    • Analysis of network usage by key business applications, users and volumes, while also reviewing how disaster recovery plans and up-time requirements are affected by network design
    • Establish a network inventory with a foundation of links and hardware including a collection of locations, addresses, and contacts
    • Review up to 3 months of invoices to establish a spending baseline, with the goal to identify areas for potential cost savings

We provide subject matter experts and work with a specialist and former VP of IT to analyze your network environment. At the conclusion, we provide a written document with key findings and recommendations for your network. Our documentation includes a comparison of possible cost savings with our new network design suggestions. We review these findings with you and provide recommendations.
