3 Par System Administrator – Job Description


Participates as a member of an IT technical support and customer service team. Performs basic and advanced 3PAR system administration tasks, troubleshooting and resource/capacity planning. Provides analysis and support of associated hardware and software using fundamental problem solving techniques and root cause analysis concepts. Uses excellent diagnostic and deductive reasoning techniques to resolve productivity issues.

Provides end-user support across all required services including HP Storage, VMware Operating Systems, Windows Operating Systems and HP BladeSystem/Virtual Connect hardware. Applies technical knowledge to support end users as required. Provides a high quality client support experience with an exceptional emphasis on quality resolutions and customer support.

Resolves technical support issues of moderate to a high level of complexity within the established technical areas of storage and operating systems. Works with vendors, as needed, and other client team members as appropriate to ensure problem resolution is obtained and, if necessary, root cause is identified. Identifies potential escalations and proactively alerts management as needed.

Provides ideas and solutions to prevent problems and support incidents from reoccurring that impact the areas of client computing support and overall employee productivity. Reviews, implements, and verifies changes/solutions of medium and high complexity and assess risk. Performs work assigned by others. Provides time / resource estimates for assigned tasks including time tracking activities where appropriate and in accordance with company guidelines


Job Requirements



  • Minimum 3 to 4 years of experience in administering and supporting HP 3PAR Storage Arrays
  • Good understanding of VMware and Windows Operating Systems
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, maturity, credibility, confidence and unquestioned integrity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Diplomatic and able to reach common ground, while building alliances without compromising the organization’s interests
  • Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic, changing industry and marketplace
  • Collaborative, with strong focus on teamwork
  • Confident and comfortable making decisions
  • Strategic thinker with excellent strategic planning and organizational abilities; and strong problem solving skills
  • Strong knowledge on performance analysis factors of Storage Arrays
  • Experience in designing, configuring and troubleshooting fabric environment constituting Brocade and Cisco switches
  • In depth knowledge of processes like incident management, problem management, configuration management and change management processes
  • Solving complicated hardware cases and liaising with Software Vendor/HP support
  • Advanced trouble shooting skills and identifying the severity of the issue, ability to resolve issues quickly to client/customer satisfaction and prepare root cause analysis (RCA)

Desired Skills:

  • Preferred 4 to 6 years of experience in administering and supporting HP 3PAR Storage and VMware Operating Systems
  • Experience in 3PAR Remote Copy, 3PAR Peer Motion and Peer Persistence a plus
  • System administration experience on Windows, Linux would be an added value
  • HP Master ASE Storage Certification a plus

Salary & Travel:

  • Normal work week Monday through Friday, some weekend activities may be required
  • Position is primarily responsible for Metro NY/NJ area and expanded New England territory
  • Salary negotiable
